Eight Tasmanians have been named in the 24-player Eastern Allies squad that will compete in round two of the AFLW Under-18 National Championships next month.
The Eastern Allies, made up of players from NSW/ACT and Tasmania, will play three matches in round two of the AFLW Under-18 Championships on the Gold Coast.
Tasmania’s under-18 team played two matches against NSW/ACT last weekend, with the Eastern Allies squad selected after these performances.
AFL Tasmania’s Female Talent Manager Leigh Elder is pleased with eight Tasmanians being selected, commenting that it will be an important stepping stone in the development of these emerging talents.
“Our target was to progress six players to round two, so to have eight selected was extremely rewarding.
“To have a third of the list coming from Tasmania is pleasing and shows how our players are developing – we are very proud of our players’ achievements.
“For most of our players this is another step in their development, although the Haines twins (Chloe and Libby) are in their draft year and this brings them another step closer to achieving their dream of playing in the AFLW,” Elder said.
