Tasmania is a proud football state with a breathtaking heritage. As a heartland football state we have produced many famous football names, a lineage of footy royalty – Baldock, Stewart, Hart, Hudson, Richardson, Riewoldt. We are now looking for a name of a different nature…it is time to name a team, our team.

Our vision is to ignite a Tasmanian team union over the coming years and we are looking for a name all Tasmanians can own, stand united under and be proud of.

The Tasmanian football steering committee unveiled a revitalised talent pathway from Under 12 to Under 18. A pathway that gives greater opportunities for our talent and more chances to see the Tasmanian name and jumper represented.

Our boys Under 18s team will enter the TAC Cup full-time next year and our girls’ team will also enter in the TAC Cup from 2020. Our senior elite talent will then represent the state in the VFL, with Tasmania awarded a provisional VFL licence for 2021.

All Tasmanian representative teams, from junior participation and talent pathways through to the selected TAC Cup and VFL programs, will sit under the one TEAM TASMANIA banner.

The Tasmanian Devils in the VFL and the Tasmanian Mariners in the TAC Cup made rich contributions to our football heritage but the time now is to chart the people’s path for Team Tasmania, with a name decided by the people. A name for all Tasmanian teams and for all Tasmanians to belong to.

The search for our name starts now.

Tasmanians can suggest their name NOW by heading to http://teamtas.com.au

A panel of local football identities and enthusiasts will then compile a short list from the best entries for a public poll to decide the name.

The search for Team Tasmania EXPLAINED:

It is a three step process.

STEP 1: NAME SUGGESTION – Everyone can head to http://teamtas.com.au to suggest a name.

STEP 2: SHORTLISTING – A selection panel will shortlist the suggested names.

STEP 3: VOTE – A public poll will pop up on http://teamtas.com.au for people to vote to decide the name for Team Tasmania.
