The NAB AFL Women’s (AFLW) draft will take place in Melbourne this Wednesday, with several Tasmanians eagerly awaiting their footy fate.

A number of the state’s top female football talent are in the frame for a shot at the big time. Launceston’s Daria Bannister is a red-hot favourite to be drafted after a strong season with Launceston, Tasmania and the Allies, as well as being involved in the AFLW National Academy. The midfielder/forward is a hard-nosed ball winner with a dynamic finishing ability around goal.

Fellow Blues Georgia Hill and Courtney Webb also have had outstanding seasons for Launceston and Tasmania with Webb winning the best on the ground medal in the Wrest Point TSLW Grand Final. The pair along with Bannister also attended the inaugural AFLW Draft Combine earlier this month.

In the south of the state, Tigers’ athletic tall Loveth Ochayi appears to be the best chance to land a home after testing extremely well at the combine. Ochayi has had an injury-interrupted season but remains in the mix after impressing with her athleticism in the ruck and up forward, a real feature.

The Tasmanians will find their fate on Wednesday at midday with the AFLW draft taking place in Melbourne.

All four Tasmanian players who played in AFLW season one were retained on AFLW lists, with the draft a chance to see Tasmania’s involvement only grow in the second season.

You will be able to watch a live stream of the draft from midday on Wednesday, here.
