WHEN it comes to the size and standing of footy clubs, local bodies such as Forth, Deloraine and the East Launceston Juniors are a world away from AFL giants North Melbourne.
But the Kangaroos have teamed up with AFL Tasmania to use the match between the Roos and Sydney at Blundstone Arena tomorrow to help clubs in the state still struggling to overcome damage caused by flooding.
In June, the worst floods in Tasmania for 40 years hit the North and North-West, with the damage extending to local footy clubs and grounds.
A number of clubs — such as Forth, Deloraine and East Launceston Juniors — suffered significant damage to clubrooms, playing facilities and equipment.
To help them rebuild, donations will be collected tomorrow by representatives from the clubs and the Tasmanian North Melbourne Next Gen Academy members.
“Sadly we know there have been plenty of people directly impacted by these floods, as well as North Melbourne fans across the state, and we are urging everyone to get behind those who were hit hard,” North Melbourne managing director and chief executive Carl Dilena said.
“Anyone coming to the game this weekend is urged to dig deep.
“The North Melbourne family always rallies around those needing support and we’re pleased to be doing that as part of our game.”
