AFL Tasmania is pleased to announce the final team and three emergencies selected to represent Tasmania at the 2016 National Female Diversity Championships.

Tasmania’s female Kickstart team will compete in Shepparton (Victoria) from Sunday 25 September to Thursday 29 September.

After a state-wide training day held at Evandale recently the final squad was chosen and there is a broad range of girls in the team from across the state.

AFL Tasmania Football Development Manager Barry Gaby said, “This is the third year Tasmania has been able to field a standalone team at the championships and we will field 12 debutants this year.”

“Selection has been made with an eye not only to the championships this year but to the future and we look forward to seeing some of the younger players in the squad featuring in coming years.”

In contrast to previous years the majority of girls selected are regular players in formalised female junior and senior rosters around the state.

“It is exciting to see the talent coming through the newly established pathway for girls and we are expecting Tasmania to be competitive against the other states,” said Barry Gaby.

The team will be once again be coached by Guy Grey assisted by Hannah Squires.
