Round 10 of the AFL Premiership season saw a host of Tasmanian stars continue their impressive campaigns, writes Josh Partridge.
Collingwood vs Western Bulldogs – Etihad Stadium, Friday 25/05/18
Jeremy Howe – Collingwood #38
TSL Club Represented: Hobart
It was a bit of a quiet one for the Collingwood high flier against the Bulldogs considering his recent lofty standards. Frustrating AFL Fantasy coaches who considered him a different option this week, Howe had 14 disposals at 79% efficiency, still gaining seven intercept possessions despite his relatively quiet game. Howe continues to play his role within a growing Collingwood side and will be a key member should they push into September football. AFL Fantasy Points: 57
Richmond vs St Kilda – MCG, Saturday 26/05/18
Jack Riewoldt – Richmond #8
TSL Club Represented: Clarence
Jack’s day came to a very abrupt end early in the first quarter through a strike from Jake Carlisle. Going up for the contest, Carlisle attempted to spoil and whacked Jack instead in an incident Damian Hardwick labelled an accident. Carlisle has since been given a two-week suspension. AFL Fantasy Points: 1
Toby Nankervis – Richmond #25
TSL Club Represented: North Launceston
Nankervis once again impressed for the Tigers in their 28-point win over the Saints on Saturday. 19 touches, seven marks and 25 hit-outs highlighted a strong game for the former North Launceston big man as the Tigers go from strength to strength. A showdown with fellow Tasmanian ruckman Tom Bellchambers looms next week in what is bound to be an intriguing clash. AFL Fantasy Points: 107
Jimmy Webster – St Kilda #29
TSL Club Represented: Glenorchy
Jimmy Webster has now officially arrived as one of the AFL’s most prominent backmen after this display against the Tigers. A career high 36 disposals, including another career high of 11 rebound 50’s was enough to see him included in AFL.com.au’s Team of the Week for the first time in his career. As a result of this game, Jimmy moves up to second in Total Rebound 50’s for the AFL, a big achievement considering his two-week injury break earlier in the season. AFL Fantasy Points: 118 – Career High
Brisbane vs Sydney – Gabba, Saturday 26/05/18
Mitch Robinson – Brisbane #5
TSL Club Represented: Lauderdale
As Jimmy Webster was leaving the field after a superb effort, Mitch Robinson stepped on and decided to follow in his fellow Tasmanian’s footsteps and have a blinder. Joining Webster in the Team of the Week, Robinson had 35 disposals, including a round-high 26 contested possessions and 13 clearances. 2018 seems to be going from strength to strength for Robinson as Brisbane continue to play competitive footy despite their win-loss record. AFL Fantasy Points: 120 – Season High
Geelong vs Calrton – GMHBA Stadium, Saturday 26/05/18
Jake Kolodjashnij – Geelong #8
TSL Club Represented: Launceston
With two Tasmanians playing key defensive roles for their respective sides in this match-up, it was good to see both put in solid performances all around. Kolodjashnij had 12 disposals at 58%, as well as four intercept possessions, five marks and three rebound 50’s in Geelong’s 28 point win. AFL Fantasy Points: 53
Liam Jones – Carlton #14
TSL Club Represented: North Hobart
Jones was a touch quieter than Kolodjashnij but used the ball very efficiently with his nine disposals going at 89%. With all nine of his disposals coming off intercepts, Jones spoiled the Cats party numerous times with 14 one-percenters. A clash against Sydney on Friday night looms large for the Blues with a potential match-up with Buddy Franklin a dangerous prospect for Jones. AFL Fantasy Points: 45
Greater Western Sydney vs Essendo – Spotless Stadium, Saturday 26/05/18
Tim Mohr – Greater Western Sydney #39
TSL Club Represented: Launceston
In his second game back for the season, Mohr had nine disposals and five marks in the Giants’ shock 35-point loss to Essendon. An efficiency rate of 89% will certainly help Mohr’s cause in retaining his spot in the line-up, as you can assume changes will come for the Giants next week. AFL Fantasy Points: 41
Tom Bellchambers – Essendon #2
TSL Club Represented: Launceston/North Launceston
In what has been described as the best three-disposal performance of all time, Bellchambers was instrumental for the Dons in their breakthrough win. Having a mammoth 45 hit-outs, Bellchambers and Shaun McKernan teamed up to lead the Bombers to back to back victories. AFL Fantasy Points: 63
Melbourne vs Adelaide – Traeger Park, Sunday 27/05/18
Hugh Greenwood – Adelaide #1
TSL Club Represented: Lauderdale
Named in the Crows best players once again, Greenwood just keeps pumping out consistent performances when Adelaide need him msot. Collecting 21 disposals, 10 tackles and six inside 50’s, Greenwood gave the Crows chances in a game where they didn’t really have too many of them. A shining light in the 91-point loss. AFL Fantasy Points: 103
Fremantle vs North Melbourne – Optus Stadium, Sunday 27/05/18
Alex Pearce – Fremantle #25
TSL Club Represented: Devonport
Nine seems to be the magic number for our key defenders this week, with Pearce also having nine disposals in Fremantle’s loss to the Kangaroos. Pearce, interestingly, split his disposals 50/50 with forward and defensive half this week, something that wouldn’t have likely happened too many times throughout his career. With increased time spent up forward, could this move foreshadow a change in role for one of the league’s better defenders? AFL Fantasy Points: 30
Ben Brown – North Melbourne #50
TSL Club Represented: Devonport / Glenorchy
The dominant duo of Ben Brown and Jarrad Waite was in full flight again on Sunday, kicking five goals between them, taking their combined season tally to 55. Sitting first and eighth in the Coleman Medal race respectively, Brown and Waite are two of the game’s most dominant performers. Brown finished with 10 disposals and 2.1 in his side’s win, going at 80% efficiency to help the Roos in attack. AFL Fantasy Points: 59
