Facilities

AFL Tasmania work closely with clubs and councils to support the needs of football for suitable, well positioned, welcoming, accessible and fit for purpose facilities right across Tasmania.
Our strategic objective is to increase the capacity and standard of venues and facilities and to  develop and invest in facilities to support and stimulate participation growth. AFL Tasmania currently has a strong focus on supporting facility upgrades to accommodate the rapid increase in female participation.

AFL Tasmania want to support clubs, councils and land owners in improving and developing football related facilities and infrastructure for the growth of the game. If you are a club or land owner and require assistance or information, please reach out. This includes any help we can provide in the preparation of applications for grants for funding.

AFL TASMANIA STATEWIDE FACILITIES STRATEGY 2021 – 2030

AFL Tasmania has launched a new Statewide Facilities Strategy, developed to enhance facility capacity across local communities and continue to drive the game’s growth over the next decade.

Community football in Tasmania achieved steady growth from 2016-19 before COVID, and in 2021 is on track to meet – if not exceed – 2019 registration figures in all key segments. It is important that after an interrupted year when many people dropped off physical exercise and team competitions, that we get as many people back into sport in 2021 and beyond.

With participant growth, and the massive ongoing surge in popularity of football for women and girls, the planning and development of fit-for-purpose infrastructure will play a vital role in ensuring we can continue to cater for everyone who wants to be involved in the sport.

Tasmanian football is rich in history, with many iconic football grounds around the state, including venues which are important landmarks within communities. The strategy has been developed using population mapping, participation data and the insights of key stakeholders through extensive community consultation with clubs, leagues and community leaders.
