Women & Girls: Leadership and Governance

The football community relies on its leaders to ensure that all can play, watch and participate in football. While most clubs now have more female representation, there are few that have equal gender diversity and inclusion.

Often women and girls in leadership roles are the only female representatives, and this can make their experiences challenging and impact the desire of others to join.

To support women and girls to participate in these roles with confidence, and in turn support clubs to build diverse and sustainable leadership in clubs, AFL Tasmania has developed the following initiatives for 2024.

Women in Leadership Program

A leadership program to support women in leadership positions in the Tasmanian football community including board or committee members. The program will provide participants with;

  • A framework for understanding self and others
  • Practical skills for communicating and building relationships
  • Tools for creating organisational culture change
  • Developing inclusive leadership practices.

The program will be held as one in-person day per region, one statewide session and an online workshop
for all participants.

North-west: May 4, 10.30am – 3.30pm (Ulverstone)
North: May 5, 10.30am – 3.30pm (Launceston)
South: May 11, 9.30 am – 3.30 pm (Hobart)

Statewide final workshop: June 16, 10.30am – 3.30pm (location – TBC)

Online session: May 8, 7.00pm – 8.00pm
